Has Profound RF been discontinued?

Not that Candela has announced. Candela, the maker, has published no notice and no end date for Profound. What has changed is that Candela's own Profound web page now redirects to a newer device called Matrix. The position is that Candela now markets Matrix, that Profound systems remain in use, and that any clinic should tell you plainly which device it treats you with. We treat with Profound, and we say so. Every treatment is given by Dr Marie Duggan, GMC 7488383, at Profound RF London Clinic, 8 Devonshire Place.

What Matrix is

Matrix is Candela's next radiofrequency microneedling platform. It uses short radiofrequency pulses rather than Profound's held temperature, and it has its own US clearances, from 2021 and 2024, for facial wrinkles in skin types I to IV. It is a different device with its own protocols and its own clearance data; a Matrix result is not a Profound result, and the reverse. The Profound trials in our full guide are Profound's own.

What it means for you

Nothing changes about the treatment you receive. The Profound System is FDA-cleared under record K161043 of September 2016, which added the cellulite indication to a facial wrinkle clearance from 2009 (K082391). If a clinic cannot name its device, or describes a Matrix treatment as Profound, ask again. The Profound or Morpheus8 page covers the other comparison people make, and the how it works page describes the treatment itself. The price is in writing at a free consultation, with a price match on any comparable written quote.
