GUIDE

How long does Profound RF last?

The measured answer is six months: that is the longest follow-up of any published Profound trial, and the face trials found the result still improving then. Nothing published measures beyond it, so the years people quote are expectation rather than measurement, and we say so. In our experience, the collagen the treatment builds is your own and ages with you, so the improvement fades slowly over the following years rather than switching off. Every treatment is given by Dr Marie Duggan, GMC 7488383, at Profound RF London Clinic, 8 Devonshire Place, after a free consultation.

The timeline

  • Days 1 to 2: in our experience the skin is red, swollen and tight, like sunburn with a bruise; most people are back to normal activities within 24 hours.
  • Days 3 to 10: swelling and bruising usually settle within five to ten days.
  • Weeks 2 to 8: the skin firms gradually as the swelling clears and the new collagen forms.
  • Months 3 to 6: the result builds, and the face trials found it still improving at six months, the last point measured; in the cellulite trial the three-month gain held at six. In our practice this is the review we photograph.
  • Beyond six months: no published measurement. In our experience the improvement fades slowly with the ageing of your own skin.

What the studies say about duration

The 100-person face and neck trial measured at six months, grading 42 people: average gains of 25.6% on the wrinkle scale and 24.1% on the laxity scale. The cellulite trial measured at three and six months: 94% of the thighs assessed improved by at least one grade at three, and 93% at six, so the result held across that window. The arm, knee and bra-line series also stopped at six months, and the lower face and neck study at four.

Repeat sessions

Profound is planned as one treatment. In our practice, some people choose a second session on the same area after the six-month review if they want more change, and the doctor says plainly whether it is worthwhile for you. Nothing published tests a repeat interval, so a yearly schedule would be a guess, and we do not sell one. The is it worth it page weighs the result against the price, and the full guide covers the rest. The price is in writing at a free consultation, with a price match on any comparable written quote.
